Streszczenie:

The Slavs’ homeland was in the Black Sea forest steppe. The Slavs neighboured the Iranian peoples from the south and the Balts from the north. The characteristic features of the Slavs’ culture, mainly material culture, were shaped in the third and fourth centuries AD, when the dominance of the Sarmatians over the Slavs ended as a consequence when the Goths ravaged the coasts of the Black See.

Streszczenie:

The article deals with the issues concerning an extent and nature of cultural contacts between the early Piasts’ populations and Scandinavia, as reflected by archaeological evidence. The contacts with Carolingian and Ottonian cultures were recorded in sociotopography of leading fortified settlements and also in reception of secular and sacral forms of pre-Romanesque architecture.

Streszczenie:

The text analyses Bohemian and Moravian influences on Polish lands during the formation of the Piast state in the tenth and eleventh centuries. It looks at various levels of material culture: construction, pottery, jewellery, coinage and, more generally, funeral culture.
