The article presents an attempt to use systems approach to democratic peace theory. The conducted analysis indicates a positive correlation between the international system’s democracy and the scale of the use of violence among states throughout the last 200 years. It also tests a hypothesis that this relationship may be inverted, provided that democracy reaches a certain critical point. It’s outcome offers premises to claim that during the period in question a trend appeared which may be a symptom of such a fact occurring in the future. Moreover results of the study encourage to put forward an argument that in a system with a higher level of democracy, insofar as the critical point has not been reached, an advancing democratization may influence the change of odds for violence to arise even more than in a system with a lower level of democracy.
