Freedom of press is defined as an absence of state intervention in media activities. Most of the states today have implemented guarantees of press freedom in their constitutions and judicial systems. However, other factors such as economic or social conditions have a substantial impact on media independence and on ability to fulfill their societal functions. The main issue of the present paper is analysis of press freedom in Poland and other countries. The article looks at the circumstances under which autonomy and independence of freedom of press (from external and internal pressures) is threatened.
