THE TEXTS PRESENTS the origin, phases of implementation and future perspectives of European development of the social model; its significance in a process of strengthening of social cohesion and establishing new priorities within structures of European Union is emphasised. The author of the text underlines factors favourable to further social integration of the Commonwealth such as: the common system of values, uniform work market, international character of social issues, functioning of international organisations and structural funds, and striving after democratisation of life. The text also indicates barriers to build coherent social space in Europe, and among the former have been included: diversified levels of absorption capacity of work markets and life conditions of society, effects of ageing societies, lack of consensus as regards comprehension of rules of social solidarity, and problems with full political integration of EU members. The analysis presented in the text finishes with an attempt to specify perspectives of the furtherance of social integration.
