THE ARTICLE PRESENTS multipolarity as a formula of contemporary international relations. Popularity of this priciple, at the end of the 20th century, has increased as the result of some important changes having a great influence on the systemic shift . The most important of them are: changing by Russia the strategy of its foreign policy that resulted in abandoning the concept of „strategic partnership” with the USA and implementing the strategy of multipolarity, as well as political and economic firmness of some regional powers, especially the European Union and some Asian countries. Presently, the strategy of multipolarity poses an opposition to American unilateralism. Undoubtedly, multipolarity serves the intrests of the powers aspiring to the global leadreship and simultaniously with their strengthening its popularity in the 21st century will prevail as the dominat model of the post Cold War international order.
