Early Medieval strongholds on the Chodelka River and their settlement base
The article discusses issues related to four early mediaeval strongholds functioning in 8–12th c. in the valley of the Chodelka River. This river is the tributary of the Vistula River located in the west part of the Lublin region. The article discusses the characteristics of strongholds, surrounding settlements and mutual relationship between them.

From a timber frame dam to a defensive bank on Ostrów Tumski in Poznan – comments on the structure of the youngest line of the fortifications
The article contains an analysis of woven fascines located under the northern part of the early-medieval defensive banks on Ostrów Tumski in Poznan. The structures, similar to the contemporary timber frame structures, had the task of accumulating the material (sand) carried by the river along the line of the planned fortifications.

The article pertains to one of the most significant early-medieval strongholds in central Wielkopolska. At attempt has been made to present not only the most important conclusions on the discussed fortifications but also to analyse its colony backup facilities.

Archaeological research into the stronghold in Zbucz, Czyże commune, Hajnówka county
The article presents the results of geophysical research carried out in a hillfort in Zbucz from the late 9th and the early 10th centuries. This is the oldest fortified object in this part of Podlasie region which, on top of military functions, served also as a venue of culture and ceremonies.
Strongholds as power institutions in the early-Piast monarchy (in written sources)
Paper summarizes selected source information concerning strongholds as power institutions of Polish monarchy in 10th–12th c. AD: forged foundation diploma for Mogilno Benedictine abbey (with date 1065), papal bullae for Gniezno, Włocławek, Wrocław and Kraków dioceses, and relevant fragments of Gallus Anonymus and Magister Vincentius chronicles.
