The Polish and Hungarian historical tradition in the Hungarian-Polish Chronicle

The Hungarian-Polish chronicle has preserved the Hungarian tradition, based on a shorter edition of the Legenda Hartviciana and one of the editions of the Gesta Ungarorum, a Croatian story about a murdered king of presumably Great-Moravian origin and, finally, a Polish chronicle from the early 13th century which bears traces of a narrative about the acts of Bolesław II the Generous written before 1076, perhaps the oldest Polish chronicle known to historians.

Bolesław I the Brave and his image created by Tomasz Treter in the 16th century, the early appearance of the king’s tomb in the Poznań cathedral

The article is dedicated to an attempt at reconstructing the early appearance of the tomb of king Bolesław I the Brave in the Poznań cathedral, destroyed in 1790. By referring to the discussion of the tomb’s founder and the changes in its shape, the author has focused on K. Stronczyński’s theory from 1887 that the chalcography by A. Mylius (1595) consolidated the early portrait of the king’s statue. The scholar was of an opinion that king Bolesław’s sculpture was modelled by the tomb of duke Henry II the Pious. The original of the portrait was created by Tomasz Treter, an artist born in Poznań who could have captured the state of the king’s statue around 1585 (a variant of the portrait was provided by S. Sarnicki in 1594).

The Polish cause as presented in the “Dziennik Miński” daily in 1917–1918

The goal of the article is to present the attitude of the editors of “Dziennik Miński” towards the Polish cause; the daily was published in 1917-1918, after toppling the tsar in Russia. This was an extremely significant time because the newspaper (one of important places where Poles exchanged opinions in the Russian empire) presented issues of reconstructing the Polish state and its future political system.
