Wsparcie Unii Europejskiej dla Romów w Polsce

Support of the European Union for Roma in Poland

Forms of support for Roma in Poland coming from the European Union revolve mainly around the projects under the Human Capital Operational Programme and on the basis of the Community Initiative Equal Programme. Among the realized projects the special place is occupied by these concerned with the fight against unemployment and with the support of education among the Roma minority.

The projects, implemented throughout the years, provide a chance to change the perception of the Roma minority by the society. For the opportunity to participate in a holistic educational process and open access to the labour market seem to be the only way to improve the existing living standards.

The advantage of the projects which certainly cannot be overlooked is the fact that the proposed aid enables a change in living conditions of entire Roma families, while respecting their culture, customs and traditions. For only in this way an improvement of the living conditions of the Roma people and a gradual integration with the rest of the society are possible.

Do the Celebrity Politics Really Matter for Hispanic Voters Today? The Comparison of Barack Obama’s and Donald Trump’s Presidential Campaigns

  • Author: Norbert Tomaszewski

The fast-growing Latino community in the United States became one of the most influential voting groups of this decade. The article shows how President Obama used the endorsement of Hispanic celebrities through viral videos and fundraisers to win among this community, while acknowledging and comparing this case to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016, during which he could not count on the celebrities of Latin descent. The article tries to answer the question whether Hollywood can or cannot influence the ethnic voting groups and why this way of canvassing is only possible for the Democratic Party.

Szkoła jako przestrzeń współpracy i otwartości wobec dziecka z rzadką chorobą genetyczną

The aim of the article was to present the main problems related to the functioning of a child with a rare disease at school and to show the forms of support for the child and his family offered by the school. In the text, I present the results of research carried out using the method of narrative interview among parents of children with a rare genetic disease. Respondents present difficult choices related to the choice of school and frequent changes of educational facilities for their children. They also show positive examples of support provided to the child by the school and educators. Parents appreciate that the teachers establish a subjective relationship with the child and parents, provide the child with proper care during classes, innovate in teaching and the attitude of openness that is passed on to the school community.

Social and Institutional Support as Perceived by Female Domestic Violence Victims Serving Custodial Sentence

  • Author: Katarzyna Front-Dziurkowska
  • Year of publication: 2016

A frequent reason for women remaining in harmful, abusive relationships is mainly fear of revenge, losing children, sense of guilt and erroneous conviction on abuse. Financial dependence and a lack of familiarity with forms of assistance and available support force a woman to remain in a disordered relationship, sometimes running afoul of the law. Sometimes it is the case that during yet another bout of abuse they reach for any object at hand and give a fatal blow to their torturer-the worst and at the same time the saddest scenario. Both options result in “the end” of one suffering-experiencing violence and the onset of another one related to serving a custodial sentence. In this article I would like to signal that some life paths combine those two awful experiences implying an absence of support of the immediate environment as well as of institutional support by entities whose responsibility it is to provide help.

The article discusses institutions providing support and aid to people with disabilities and their families. The theoretical determinants of the aid process were discussed in the context of the possible forecasting of strategies for these interactions within the functioning of public, non-governmental and private institutions (without budgetary subsidies). The important area highlighted in the paper was not only disability and the family’s needs but also the nature of a possible support which should depend on a forecast of actions resulting out of the nature and grade of person’s disability. In turn, the scope of proposed solutions should comprise of a package of offers dependent on the grade and nature of person’s disability and should lead to their life and economic independence. However, this requires a tripartite social dialogue, good will, and understanding of each person requiring a long-term support and aid. This article ends with a short conclusion highlighting the need for immediate actions for starting a social dialogue in order to establish a tri-sectoral aid, and within its scope, a reasonable forecast of the needs of the child with disabilities.

The image of the modern school in the artistic view of selected fields of art. Selected aspects

The school institution has always been subject to social criticism. The negative image of the school was not always fully justified and true. It happened that the words of criticism contributed to the improvement of school’s image. The school is one of the most important social institutions, it is therefore essential that its assessment be objective and the difficulties encountered / shortcomings have become an impulse for discussion, dialogue, and then for correction and supplementation. This text is an attempt to indicate the role of the art that presents selected areas of the functioning of the school. In the text, I refer to historical examples of art involvement in the educational and upbringing process at school, thus trying to signal that art was already an important element of education in the past. It was creating the image of the school. Today we can notice a similar practice. On the one hand, the presence of art in school creates its image, and on the other hand, art that works outside also creates its image. In the text, I present a number of examples of how school is perceived in an artistic image of fine arts, film and theater.

Strategies for supporting gifted foster care pupils

The issue of gifted children growing up in a natural family environment has been addressed quite widely. However, small amount of research regarding gifted children residing in the foster care environment is noticeable. At the same time, the issue of having, developing and supporting abilities is extremely significant, especially with regard to pupils of foster care environments deprived of their primary developmental environment, which is the family. Foster care environments can also effectively support the potential of their pupils. The publication is an attempt to answer the question of what support activities are undertaken in the foster care environment in relation to gifted pupils? The research method is case studies. The research indicates various forms of support for gifted pupils: the organization of additional activities, depending on the interests or abilities of the pupil or the financial support as the one they need for the future process of independence, as well as emotional support and others. At the same time, some differences are visible between the activities of institutional and family care, as the latter definitely more often uses the help of psychological and pedagogical counseling centers or organizations supporting gifted students, even if in the form of funded scholarships.
