In the article, I search for the connection between emotions culture and education by examining the affective reproduction of culture. Building on the tradition of Émile Durkheim, in the works by Arlie Russell Hochschild and Steven Gordon the concept of emotional culture is (re)constructed. Emotional culture is understood as the specific complex of emotion vocabularies, feeling rules, and beliefs about emotions. Emotions and their meaning provide a socio-psychological mechanism that controls/develops individuals and groups. In the text, it is argued that the concept of emotional culture adds a distinctive conceptual tool for studying different educational contexts and environments. To examine this argument, the article is divided into three parts. First, an overview of the concepts and theories that underlie the term of emotional culture is given. In the second part, the concept is analyzed in the light of modern cultural studies. The article closes by pointing out pedagogical implications, especially those connected with emotional education.

Polish and foreign educational research on emotions is constantly developing. Scientific research conducted in schools and public libraries has not yet focused on the emotions felt by children in libraries. The article aims to reflect on the library as an educational space with its own emotional climate and to analyse the results of the pilot study and the primary version of the School Library Emotional Climate Questionnaire tool used in it. The study was conducted in a public primary school in Poland between April 2023 and June 2023 and 57 respondents took part. The study’s conclusions emphasise the importance of research on the emotional climate of libraries in developing solutions to improve the quality of functioning of this educational space.

Emotional competence in the conditions of multiculturalism
Taking into account the cultural sources of knowledge and the meaning of emotions, in this text, some questions are posed pertaining to the multiculturalism of emotional competence and its importance in education. The theoretical framework of this discussion consists of two concepts: emotional culture, according to A. Russel Hochschild, and emotional competence by C. Saarni. In the first part of the article, I justify the cultural nature of emotional competence and consistently point to selected intercultural differences in the experience and expression of emotions. Sensitivity to beliefs, values, and rules related to emotions in a particular culture is the basis for recognizing children’s developmental and educational needs and developing a culturally conscious support system. In the second part, I make an attempt to describe the effects of the monocultural embedding of emotional competence development programs and indicate the conditions necessary for education in multiculturalism. I argue that learning how culture shapes emotional life and how emotions affect functioning in different cultures is vital for understanding other people.
