Development strategies of cities with poviat rights
The article presents the results of research on development strategies of cities with poviat rights. The reason for undertaking the research was the addition of provisions on such development plans to the Act on Self-Government in 2020, and its aim was to determine, in quantitative terms, what number of cities have such plans and whether their adoption is related to the size and number of citizens of the cities. The research was also qualitative in scope and concerned the form and content of development strategies, with the aim of identifying their most important features.

At the time of an economic crisis and its psychological consequences the attitudes and activity of young adults, who are just starting their vocational life, are of great significance. Graduates from colleges and universities are a very important group among them. Their abilities have an impact upon the intellectual potential of the country’s economy, and consequently upon its novelty. The presented research concentrated upon the knowledge of graduates about ongoing changes and tendencies in the labour market, and their ability to communicate their needs in this respect. The study comprised 602 students of the final years of B.A. and M.A. studies, since they are confronted with making a decision concerning their future jobs. Decisions made at that time have a long-lasting influence on the quality of their life. It is therefore worthwhile to acquire better knowledge on the inner motives of their choices.

Two in-depth research projects on Norwegian teachers’ didactic thinking and planning reveal that there can be pitfalls when trying to reach the many good but complex goals for education. The first research project is doctoral theses about teachers’ teaching and planning in social studies. The second research project is part of a nationally supported research project about teachers’ and school-leaders’ sense and sensibility in achieving schools accountability in practice. The article states that as we strive to create good schools for everybody, we must accept that there are many challenges connected with that goal fulfilment.
