Successful Application of Sports Games in the System of Physical Education of Students – Stage of Implementation of the Concept of Development of Higher Education

The article is devoted to a new approach to the problem of rethinking the concept of development of the higher education system against the background of socioeconomic transformations in the country. A new look at the processes of transformation involves an innovative approach to the system of physical education: improving curricula. This approach is based on the introduction of new modern technologies in the educational process, as methods and techniques proposed by teachers of the Department of Physical Education. At the stage of reforming the higher education system, the requirements for the level of training of young professionals are growing: both literate and harmoniously developed and physically healthy specialists are needed, and the competencies gained as a result of training will contribute to functional professional tasks. The main tasks of legal institutions of higher education can be called the education of the individual, the formation and development of a young specialist who, having received professional knowledge, is ready to effectively implement them in accordance with the needs of modern society (Barsukova, Antipova, 2021). The discipline „Physical Education” at the National University „Odessa Law Academy” among other humanities disciplines forms the competencies of the profile aimed at studying the general laws of preserving and strengthening the health of the applicant, the formation of a harmoniously developed personality of young professionals (Golovchenko, 2001). In order to implement the main objectives of the discipline, the educational program for the preparation of applicants for higher education with a bachelor’s degree was revised. The existing curriculum in physical education is analyzed and evaluated. On the basis of the received data the correction of the maintenance of employment on physical training with the substantiation of introduction in educational process of the changes given by teachers is offered. The program is developed on the basis of laws and principles of physical education, legal documents that determine the order of higher education institutions and includes theoretical and practical teaching material. This program, according to the concept of development, is tailored to the wishes of applicants and has three main sections: Sports Games, Health Fitness, Rehabilitation Groups, each of which solves the main task of learning – physical development and rehabilitation of higher education. In this article we explore one of the most effective forms of motor activity of applicants – sports games. We have used sports games as a tool that promotes the quality of theoretical and practical skills of health, which provides students with successful mastery of professional knowledge (Krucevic, 2008).

Religiousness and the sense of identity of students from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia

The subject matter explored in the article include the issues related to religiousness of university students. This category comprises their denominational structure, their attitude to religion, their self-evaluation of the essence of religion in life, the frequency of participation in religious practices. These categories are shown in relation to their sense of identity. The research with the use of the survey method was conducted among students from the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia who live in culturally diverse territories. The research results show the ongoing changes in Polish and Slovak societies. Young people take advantage of the possibility of making choices and their choices concern not only education and professional paths, but also the beliefs, behaviour and activities in the religious sphere. The surveyed students’ freedom of choice is manifested, among others, in their sense of a multidimensional identity and in the consciousness of belonging to the Church. Among the surveyed university youth – in the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia – one can observe the individualization of religiousness in the form of the departure from religious affiliation, as well as in “belonging without faith”.

Empathy of future teachers and their intercultural sensitivity

This article is empirical. It presents the results of a study aimed at determining the level of empathy and intercultural sensitivity of future teachers. Preparation of teachers to fulfil the pedagogical role of school, especially in the current situation caused by the war in Ukraine and the enrolment of approximately 200,000 Ukrainian children into the Polish education system, involves the necessity of adequate training of candidates for this profession. What is significant in this context is the definition of empathy, which should be understood as the ability to respectfully understand the other person and the inner power that guides and motivates an individual to pro-social behaviour. Another important element of that definition is cultural sensitivity understood as an indicator of cross-cultural communication ability, manifested in the readiness to interact with people from different cultures. The study was conducted employing a diagnostic survey with the use of a revised version of the Empathic Understanding Questionnaire by Andrzej Węgliński and the scale of intercultural sensitivity developed by Guo- Ming Chen and William Starosta in the Polish adaptation of Dariusz Majerk and Mariusz Korczyński. The survey involved students in pedagogical faculties from various higher education institutions in Poland. The results of the study reveal the need for pedagogical preparation of future teachers to fulfil their professional role to the highest possible extent.

The practical aim of this research is to propose measures in educational processes that contribute to the development of entrepreneurial potentials. Personal entrepreneurial potentials are researched through the following dimensions: attitudes towards change, autonomy, self-confidence. The results showed that students’ attitudes towards changes are positive verbally and desirable socially. Closer analysis showed that almost half of the respondents avoid uncertain situations. Autonomy, as the second measured dimension, seems to be an unimportant feature of the surveyed students. It is the way of generating income for men, and possibility of showing their potentials for women. The results clearly indicate the need for the development of all the measured dimensions.

The presented article was an attempt to explore the differential concept building by teaching students of the elementary level through activity-based instruction. An experiment was conducted in a public sector secondary school on students of grade 6 in teaching of social studies. The major finding of the current showed that concept building was made easier and understandable by teaching students with the use of activity-based instruction as compared to lecture-based instruction in teaching of social studies. It was further explored that the academic achievement of students taught with the use of activity-based instruction was significantly better than that of students taught with the use of lecture-based instruction. Therefore, it was suggested that the effects of activity-based instruction can be investigated by teaching other subjects using this method and teachers may be trained in how to teach their respective subjects with the use of the activity-based teaching method.

The text deals with the question of the influence of international exchange programmes on reducing ethnic prejudices in their participants. Apart from a brief introduction into the issue of reducing prejudice, it comprises 392 free responses of Czech respondents, predominantly students, who have filled out an online survey as part of the project Intergroup Attitudes and Intergroup Contact in Central Europe. The participants gave accounts of their real contacts with Polish people, oftentimes within the framework of international exchange programmes, Erasmus in particular. Based on the comparison of the results of the qualitative analysis of the statements with the conditions of successful reduction of prejudices, one can suggest that international exchange programmes should have a positive influence on reducing negative ethnic stereotypes and prejudices among their participants.

Our research focused on similarities and differences in the types of families of students without disability (SWOD) and with disability (SWD) and their economic and social status. Cross-sectional research was conducted on a sample of 2,847 people (including 170 SWD). No statistical differences were found in terms of global variables. The students were raised mainly by married parents living together (SWOD-77.1% and SWD-73.5%). However, SWD were more likely to have cohabiting parents or were orphaned. The economic situation of the families was similar, although, in terms of resources allocated for the development of its members, SWD had lower indicators. The social status of the respondents did not differ statistically.

The text addresses the key competencies of the future relevant to the labour market from the perspective of students of the humanities and social sciences. It is based on the research carried out in three universities: in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia (a total of 603 students were surveyed) in 2022 as part of the Erasmus+ project grant KA220-HED. Research results indicate that students perceive critical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills as the most important for future work, given that creativity is ranked in the middle of the three universities by students. Students ranked low emotion management, time management skills and digital competencies in the labor market. In terms of gender in the 4Cs, there are differences – for men, critical thinking is more important than for women, while communication and cooperation are more important for women. There are no differences in assessing the importance of creativity – this reflects the stereotypical image of differences between occupations perceived as more male and female.

Over the years, there has been an increased investment in international education particularly because of the employment advantage that it provides. However, how well this form of education promotes employment opportunities and job engagement among graduates remains under-researched. This study examines the effect of investment in international higher education on students’ job engagement in Nigeria. Four research questions were answered and three hypotheses tested in the study. Survey design was adopted in the study while a total of 384 graduates who have studied abroad were sampled using snowballing sampling approach. The instrument used for data collection was named “Investment in International Higher Education for Students Job Engagement Questionnaire” (IIHESJEQ) which was face and content validated with a Cronbach Alpha reliability index of 0.82. Out of the 384 persons sampled for the study, 318 graduates (192 males and 126 females) representing 82.8% responded to the instrument and their responses were used for analysis using mean, standard deviation z-test and regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study showed that the students perceived that international higher education has both social and economic relevance. The amount spent on their education, duration of educational stay and number of countries visited significantly contributed to the students’ job engagement. Slow pace of technological adoption and cultural variations were part of the barriers to the internationalization of higher education while implementing hybrid education was seen as part of the strategies identified for internationalizing higher education in Nigeria. The study recommended the realignment of higher education curriculum to capture global realities as a way of promoting internationalization of higher education in Nigeria.
