Burial rituals and funerary services in the Polish community in Lvov in the late 19th and the early 20th centuries
The article’s goal is to highlight burial rituals and funerary services in the Polish community in Lvov in the late 19th and the early 20th centuries as the issues are rarely discussed in academic research. Poles (who prevailed in the city) were typically Roman Catholics. The funerary ritual was modelled by the Catholic tradition. In the last decades of the 19th century, funeral parlours emerged in Lvov to render services to the city’s affluent and poor inhabitants alike.

“A bit too late and too little, but at least it’s something”. Poles in Galicia’s attitudes towards the Act of 5th November 1916
The outbreak of WWI offered hope to Poles from Eastern Europe’s Galicia that the so-called Austria-Poland solution would ensue. In the face of military and political weakness of Austria-Hungary, the idea failed to take root. The proclamation of the Act of 5th November 1916 indicated that the Polish state would be reconstructed under the auspices of the Second Reich. This arouse resentment among Poles living in Galicia who had hoped to be united with their compatriots in the Kingdom of Poland.

The Polish cause by the Act of 5th November according to Stanisław Koźmian
This article presents the opinions of Stanisław Koźmian (1836-1822) on the way in which the Polish cause was resolved during WWI until the Act of 5th November. According to Koźmian, the best solution was the Austrian-Polish concept revolving around incorporating the Kingdom of Poland to the Habsburg monarchy.

This article takes a fresh look on the status of Galicia within the Habsburg Monarchy between the late 18th and the early 20th century, presenting the obstacles and opportunities of economic growth faced by imperial policy-makers. At the same time, an analysis is presented of the impact of the imperial experience on the process of forging national identities. The emphasis has been placed on how the increasing national fragmentation in a multi-cultural region affected economic prosperity.

From November to November. The consensual parting of the Habsburg Monarchy and the Poles
The author of the text analyses the reasons why Poles from Galicia, southern Poland, departed from the so-called Austro-Polish conception and matured towards the ideal of full independence. He draws attention to the significance of the Act of 5 November 1916 for the initiation of emancipation processes among Poles living under the Habsburg rule.

Wieliczka County during World War I in the light of the diary of Marian Dydyński from Raciborsko
The aim of this article is to present Marian Dydyński’s from Raciborsko diary account in the context of World War I. The main emphasis in my work will be on the economic aspect: inflation, destruction, robberies, the terrible condition of the farm, the provision of the Austrian army, and after its withdrawal – the Russian army, both of which were often obtained by force. I will present these events from the perspective of a landowner who, unlike other people around him, did not decide to leave his land and persistently guarded his possessions.
