Magdalena of Tarło Lubomirska (d. 1728). attempt to construct the biography

Construction of a woman’s biography, which preserved the memory of a person, is an arduous task because of lack of sources and it is never completed work. Biography of Magdalena Lubomirska could be based only on her written will, and not numerous correspondence of her mother Teresa Tarło and brother Jan Tarło. We even don't know the date of Magdalena's birth or the exact date of her death. The only document, the author of which is Magdalena, is her last will.

Specyfika guanxi – pozytywny czy negatywny kapitał społeczny?

The specificity of guanxi – positive or negative social capital?

The text presents the problem of a Chinese-specific phenomenon known as guanxi. Their features and their connection with Confucianism were discussed. They emphasized their permanence and continuous presence in Chinese society, emphasizing their evolution after China adopted the principles of market economy. Also tried to look at guanxi in terms of social capital, showing elements connecting both phenomena. It has been noted that some researchers have a tendency to perceive guanxi in terms of negative social capital. This approach was considered as unauthorized as a result of Western ethnocentrism and pointed to the need to respect the cultural distinctiveness of the East and West. It has also been pointed out, that the interest in China and the role that guanxi play, especially in the sphere of economy, may be due to fears of Chinese domination, as well as the lack of understanding by the West that effective modernization based on other patterns is possible than those preferred in the Euro-Atlantic cultural circle.

Participation in Culture of Adults with Moderate Intellectual Disabilities: Biographical Analysis of People Living with their Parents

This paper discusses issues related to the participation in culture of adults with moderate intellectual disabilities. The aim of this paper is to present the findings of a study interpreting and constructing participation in culture by members of this group. I was interested in how such people experience culture and how they interpret it and what significance they attach to its various manifestations. This piece of research was located in the current of constructivist and interpretative studies, which has enabled the application of the biographical method. The research project used four individual, in-depth and partially structured interviews and narrative analysis.
The narratives told by the interviewees reveal the subjective sense and meaning imparted by people with intellectual disabilities to their own participation in culture. The narratives have shown the difficult adulthood and the resulting problems of everyday life. The biographies of adults with intellectual disabilities living with their parents show the complexity of adulthood and the resulting attributes. Due to the difficulties of everyday life, the reality constructed by the narrators is filled with regret, anger, disappointment, sadness and longing for normality. Negative emotions do not allow them to develop, to open up to people, to build relations with them. This results in a limited participation of adults with intellectual disabilities in culture in a broad sense of the word.

New Families in English and Italian Children’s Literature: An Analysis of the Contemporary Publishing Industry

This article aims to offer an overview of non-traditional families in contemporary children’s literature. The most influential works about divorce, adoption, and same-sex families will be presented, considering both Italian authors and translations from English into Italian. These contemporary themes are developed in picture books for a pre-scholar audience, but also in youngadult novels, covering an extremely wide range of readers. The aim of this essay is to observe how the Italian publishing industry is reacting to these new tendencies that are now very common in many countries of the world but cannot emerge completely in others. Nevertheless, according to recent studies, children’s picture books or novels in which different kinds of families are shown are a particularly important tool to teach diversity and tolerance and to promote modern values.

Alone on a Wide Wide Sea: Exploring Narratives of Child Migration from Britain to Australia

  • Author: Nadia von Benzon
  • Institution: Lancaster University
  • Year of publication: 2019
  • Source: Show
  • Pages: 24-38
  • DOI Address: https://doi.org/10.15804/kie.2019.02.02
  • PDF: kie/124/kie12402.pdf

Focusing on identity formation amongst child migrants, this paper reflects on the experiences of unaccompanied minors sent from Britain to Australia in the 20th Century. Between 1947-1967 3170 children are understood to have been exported to Australia, making Britain the only country in the world known to have exported children during peace time. Most of these children came from British care homes to which they had been entrusted by their families or social workers. The majority of exported children were from working class backgrounds and many still had living parents, or other close family, in the UK. Children as young as four were sent to train as farm labourers and domestic staff, simultaneously relieving the burden of providing for these children from the British Government, and increasing the white population in ‘underpopulated’ Australia. The paper presents thematic analysis of four published sources produced for a wide readership: two published memoirs and two young adult novels. The paper seeks to reflect on the impact of forced transnational migration on the children’s identity formation as new Australians.

The phenomenon of addiction to psychoactive substances is a global social problem. The problem concerns people of all ages, regardless of social status, gender or origin, with too many populations experimenting with intoxicants. The spreading phenomenon is increasingly affecting adolescents who, in the age of development and accessibility, are becoming a frequent consumer of consciousness-changing agents. The aim of the article is to approximate preventive measures that will reduce and eliminate the phenomenon of consumption of psychoactive substances by young people. The publication also addresses the issue of contemporary problems and threats that young people face in everyday life, as well as helps to find out the reasons for the use of toxic substances by adolescents. A significant part of the article is devoted to the role of the family, which plays a preventive role in eliminating the phenomenon. Not without significance is the school environment in which young people spend a significant amount of time. Preventive programs are also presented, which reduce the consumption of narcotic substances by adolescents.

Zagadnienie współuczestnictwa rodziców i nauczycieli w realizacji założeń edukacji wielo- i międzykulturowej nie należy do mocno wyeksponowanych w literaturze przedmiotu. Autorka artykułu podejmuje próbę przybliżenia typów partycypacji obu stron we wskazany obszar edukacyjny, korzysta z koncepcji rodzajów uczestnictwa rodziców i nauczycieli we wspólnym kształceniu i wychowaniu Volkera Krumma.

In this article, I present the topic of work on the feelings undertaken by doctors and medical staff towards a child with a rare disease and its immediate family. I refer to the sociological concept of the trajectory of the disease. I used the method of the narrative interview in terms of Frütz Schitze. In the last part of the article, I present the results of research carried out with the mother of the sick person. The respondent presents cooperation with specialists in a negative light. Both doctors and nurses do not undertake interactional work of the patient and his relatives, nor do they trustt work in them and biographical work. Such work is of great importance in the treatment of the child and in the process of supporting his relatives. Actions taken by specialists affect the life of the patient and his family not only in terms of physical health. They are also about the well-being of the family, its emotional resources. The result of evident mistakes in these actions is the fact that the mother of the sick child does not work through a difficult biographical experience.
