General information

African Journal of Economics, Politics and Social Studies accepts original research, theoretical and methodological papers, research and conference reports, as well as review essays and book reviews in English. The journal does not usually publish translations, but proposals are considered individually by the editors. The AJEPSS publishes papers related to culture and religion, economics and development studies, history and archeology, peace, conflicts and security, political science and international relations, social and economic geography, as well as sociology, as they relate to the human condition in Africa.

The hard copy of the journal is the original copy.

The initially accepted submission should be followed by the copyright agreement and authorship declaration signed by the principal author.

The publication is free of charge. The journal does not have article processing charges, editorial charges or printing fees. The Professor Czesław Mojsiewicz International Cooperation Fund and our donors cover all costs of the AJEPSS.

African Journal of Economics, Politics and Social Studies accepts only papers in English that have been proof-read and edited by an English language editor or native speaker.

Ethical Standards & Plagiarism Policy

African Journal of Economics, Politics and Social Studies publishes peer-reviewed papers to present current findings within the fields of culture and religion, economics and development studies, history and archeology, peace, conflicts and security, political science and international relations, social and economic geography, as well as sociology, as they relate to the human condition in Africa. The AJEPSS prevents copyright infringement, plagiarism and other breaches of best practice in publication. We are committed to meeting standards of ethical behaviour at all stages of the publication process. The journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines in order to meet these requirements.

Publication of peer-reviewed papers involves different parties, which contribute to the realisation of our objective. Therefore, the author, the journal editor, the peer-reviewer, the publisher and the publishing partner have a responsibility to meet ethical standards at all stages of the publishing process, from submission to publication and dissemination of work. The AJEPSS Ethical Standards are as follows:

Editors are expected to act in a balanced, objective and fair way, without prejudice or discrimination on grounds of gender/sexual orientation, religious or political beliefs, ethnic, national or geographical origin of the authors; to handle special issues in the same way as other submission, so that papers are accepted solely on their research merit and without commercial influence; to follow the COPE guidelines for editors; to use anti-plagiarism software provided by the publisher; to give authors a reasonable opportunity to respond to any complaints and address their responses.

Reviewers are expected to alert the editor to any potential conflicts of interest, and if necessary to withdraw their services; to alert the editors of any published or submitted content that is substantially similar to that under review; to maintain the confidentiality of any information supplied by the editor or author; to review the manuscript objectively and without prejudice, in a timely manner; to contribute to the editorial process with an assessment based on the current state of arts.

Authors are expected to assert that the manuscript as submitted is not under consideration or accepted for publication elsewhere; to confirm that all the submitted work is original and to acknowledge and cite content reproduced from others, if necessary to obtain permission to reproduce content; to ensure that presented studies involving humans conform national and European laws and ethical requirements (including privacy protection) and that participants freely expressed their permission; to declare any potential conflicts of interests; to list all substantive contributors as authors; to inform the editor about all supporting institutions; to notify the journal editor or publisher if a significant error in the publication is identified; to maintain records of data associated with the manuscript, and to provide access to these data if requested.

Adam Marszałek Publishing and Publishing Partners are expected to ensure that good practices and the ethical standards are maintained; to review the publishing standards every two years and suggest improvements to the Editorial Board; to support editors, reviewers and authors during the publication process.

Misconduct, unethical behaviour and plagiarism may be identified and brought to the attention at any time and by anyone. The notification to the editor or publisher should provide information and evidence in order for an investigation to be initiated – all allegations are taken thoughtfully and treated in the same way, until a successful decision or conclusion will be reached. The editor-in-chief is responsible for the initial decision. Evidence should be gathered while avoiding spreading any allegations beyond those who need to know. Minor misconduct is dealt without the need to consult more widely – the author should be given the opportunity to respond to any allegations. Serious misconduct might require notification of the employers of the accused – the editor-in-chief should make this decision by further consultation with a limited number of experts.

Outcomes of identified misconduct or unethical behaviour (may be applied separately or in conjunction):

• informing the author or reviewer about misunderstanding or misapplication of journal’s standards;
• letter from the editor-in-chief covering the misconduct;
• formal notification of the misconduct;
• retraction or withdrawal of a publication from the AJEPSS;
• formal letter to the head of author’s or reviewer’s department or funding agency;
• reporting the case and outcome to a professional organisation or higher authority for further investigation.
